Choices Markets is issuing a voluntary recall on Choices’ Own Deli products containing frozen green peas due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Snow Cap Foods issued a recall on June 15th regarding frozen peas that may have been contaminated with Listeria. We recalled any products that may have been in contact with the peas immediately, and there were no peas with the affected recall dates within our store or commissary kitchen. We stress that this was not an issue with our kitchen or stores, but with the product supplier.
To date, we have not had any reported illnesses. We have voluntarily recalled our deli products merely as a safety precaution out of respect to our customers.
The CFIA is recalling all dishes made with frozen peas that were not cooked prior to assembly. Moving forward, Choices will be cooking all frozen vegetables prior to product assembly. Consumers should not consume the recalled products described below.
The following products have been sold at Choices Markets locations in British Columbia. If you have purchased one of these products, please return it to the store for a full refund, regardless of date.

What you should do
If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.
Check to see if you have recalled products in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die.
